Back from my first ride at Heil Ranch, CO

Well, it went better than I had thought it was going to! I posted on mountainbikereview.com for a "New rider to Boulder" and I got a response from a guy not too far away who was planning on riding this afternoon anyways. I met Chad at the trailhead at 3 and we headed off. A gradual climb led to open meadows with wildflowers. The trails were semi-rocky with some smooth section. We climbed for a while before we got to the tree line where you could see Long's Peak. Incredible.

From there we started the descent. Fast and rocky. My hands were hurting by the time I got back to the car from gripping the handlebars and brake levers.

The ride was about 2 hours long with 80% of it being climbing. But the downhill was well worth it. The Colorado terrain is way different than back home in the Northeast. I think I'm going to like it here. Just a bit :)

Here are some stats:

ELEVATIONS
Start: 5,893 ft
Top: 6,808 ft

TOTAL CLIMBING/DECENDING
1,628 ft

DISTANCE:
9.66 MILES

I'm looking forward to my next ride for sure!
