Today, we took a trip up North (1 hour from us) to Wellington, CO, a little northwest of Fort Collins, and about 20 minutes south of the Wyoming border. Our CSA was having an Open House so we could see where our produce was farmed. It was a really great experience. The great thing about this farm is that they are 100% organic - no pesticides!! Their animals are cage free as well. They were giving 1 hour bus tours of the farm so we jumped on the opportunity. We boarded a school bus (oh the memories!) and headed off on the guided tour. We stopped at the hen barn and got to see how they were free to roam. The guide spoke about how, yeah, we can get cheaper eggs at Walmart, but those hens live a horrible existence living their life on a small space the size of an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. The hens at Grant Farms are free to roam and are much better off. They were everywhere. The really cool thing was that we were able to pick our own eggs. Talk about seeing where your eggs come from!! The tour continued with the guide pointing out where all of the produce is harvested. We're really excited to get our share. We also decided to add the egg share as well as an organic free range quartered chicken. Who's coming over for dinner?
Ok, enough for now.
